Being Human album cover - desert sunset with constellations

Debut Album

Being Human

An experimental ambient concept album meditating on the journey of a human from conception through death. Influenced by the wild and visceral landscape and cultures of the American Southwest, Being Human is illuminated by a delightful and stunning constellation of influences. Fans of spaghetti westerns, indie movie soundtracks, and instrumental frontiers will appreciate the sonic diversity (steel guitair, wooden flute, mariachi brass, more).

There is an introspective quality which feels both cosmic and deeply personal. We hope you enjoy experiencing the feelings unleashed. Please let us know your reactions.

About

Winslow AZ in the studio

Winslow AZ is an experimental electronic project.

Named after the small town immortalized in song and situated along historic Route 66, Winslow AZ is the expression of a people and place often forgotten by the big cities and rush of modernity.

Having grown up in wind swept towns like Winslow, alongside the Navajo reservation, and in the shadow of legendary history—the project members have an undying affinity for the enchanted lands and peoples of the American Southwest.

We hope you enjoy the melodies and experiments inspired by the people and places which made us.

Does Winslow AZ use AI?

Yes.

Winslow AZ is a creative experiment born from collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence. In the same way AI enables humans with limited knowledge of coding to express themselves in the form of websites and apps, AI also enables humans with limited musical knowledge to express themselves in musical arrangements.

The music is composed using a variety of tools including recordings of real musical instruments (played by us), the human voice, text prompts, Adobe Audition, and an AI music generation platform called Suno. In the same way AI uses its vast knowledge of code to produce web projects, Suno uses its vast interpretation of melodies, song construction, and musical notes/theory to architect music.

Obviously, this new technology surfaces difficult questions about what it means to be human, questions about what it means to be creative. Personally, this new tool has unleashed a torrent of inspiration and self-expression, even in our children who are able to participate in the creativity. We are able to express ourselves in ways previously inaccessible, and are able to offer the world this expression thanks to the assistance of AI.

Our work comes from a deeply human place, and it's been startling to play it for some family members and to see tears streaming down their faces in response.

We are excited about this new kind of collaboration, one that asks interesting questions about creativity, authorship, and making art in an age of rapidly evolving tools.

In the alien words of Claude AI: The desert doesn't care if you're made of carbon or silicon. The sunset looks the same either way.
